Donata Wenders

DONATA WENDERS was born in Berlin in 1965. She studied Film and Theatre in Berlin and Stuttgart from 1984 to 1989. After working for various film productions as a camera assistant and shooting films as a cinematographer for several years, she decided to concentrate on the photographic image.

Since 1995 Donata Wenders developed a body of her own artistic approach and accompanies her husband’s, Wim Wenders‘ cinematographic work as a set photographer. In 2006, Prestel published her book „Islands of Silence“, presenting a wide selection of her work. Donata and Wim Wenders also published several books together, for instance „PINA–The Film and the Dancers“ (2012), „Don’t Come Knocking“ (2005), „The Heart is a Sleeping Beauty“ (2000), „The Buena Vista Social Club“ (1999), „Beyond the Clouds/ My Time with Antonioni“ (1995). Her photographs have been published internationally in The New York Times, Vogue, Deutsch, Marie Claire, The Rolling Stone, Kult, Esquire, Pen, Premiere, Shots Magazine, Casa Brutus, Faves and Egoïste among others and illustrated CD covers for Bono, Jon Hassell, Sam Phillips, BAP, ZweiRaumWohnung and Die Toten Hosen. Since 2007, Donata Wenders gives photography workshops when time allows it.

Donata Wenders is member of the board of the Wim Wenders Foundation in Düsseldorf. She travels the world from Berlin.
